6 Facts About Floor Painting You Should Know
We explain why paint is the best option for a dacha and how to hide floor unevenness without completely repainting
Recently, we shared tips on working with paint. Now we've gathered six facts about floor painting that everyone should know.
It's economical
Compared to the cost of installing new flooring, painting is much cheaper. All you need: a few paint cans, primer, and consumables.
Just remember to first check the condition of the floors and what was applied previously. Go over the wooden surface with a degreaser and remove any remaining paint before priming the floor. Begin the painting process near the wall opposite the door to avoid trapping yourself in a corner.

Paint floors before moving in
You'll not only have to remove all furniture from the room but also avoid entering it for several days until the paint dries.
By the way, ultra-durable and wear-resistant paints can emit vapors that are not good to breathe. This issue can be solved by purchasing odorless eco-safe paint: look for ecological labeling signs on the packaging.
Paint helps zone spaces
For example, to highlight a dining area — as shown in the image. In Scandinavian interiors, designers often forgo carpets and instead 'draw' them directly on the floor.
Or use paint to adjust the space's geometry. For example, a long narrow room can be visually widened with horizontal stripes on the floor.

Color doesn't have to be uniform
If the floors aren't perfectly flat, try painting them in the style of Jackson Pollock's abstract paintings: add a few splatters. An excellent solution for a dacha where the floor has been in place for years and you don't want to move furniture or repaint.
Dust is more visible on dark floors
There's a stereotype that dirt is more noticeable on light floors. In reality, it’s the opposite: every speck of dust will be visible on a dark surface.

Matte paint is more practical
Gloss works best on perfectly flat surfaces. Maintaining such floors will require much more care: any marks will be immediately noticeable. Make sure the paint you use contains anti-fungal components.
