What to Plant in the Shade on the Dacha? 10 Garden Plants and Tips
We are used to the idea that plants need a lot of light for normal growth. But what to do if the garden is in shade? This can happen due to improper site zoning. Experts from Derevo Park have compiled a list of ten plants that are not afraid of such conditions.
All varieties of rhododendrons
These evergreen plants will love the partial shade of a forest edge. In nature, they grow on moist forest soils — an excellent habitat for fungi that help rhododendrons absorb nutrients. By the way, direct sunlight can burn tender young leaves.

All fir varieties
For example, Inversa, Nidiformis, Akrocona will decorate any composition.

Bergenia in varieties and species
Nature has blessed bergenia with light foliage and an elegant trunk. This attractive plant will beautify your garden throughout all seasons.

Serviceberry (Viburnum carpellarium)
This plant has velvet-like round leaves, white flower clusters, and fruits that ripen unevenly and can be green, red, or nearly black at the same time.

Ferns
There are many varieties of these plants. For example, sensitive fern (Onoclea sensibilis) — a member of tropical ferns — easily survives in our region. Its leaves, up to 1 meter long, are pink in spring and light green in early summer.
Another fern variety is the brown osmunda (Osmunda claytoniana), whose leaves turn bright brown in autumn.

All varieties of lungwort
Including medicinal lungwort. In May, these low-maintenance plants delight with bright purple flowers and then form a dense cover in the shade of forest trees.

May Lily of the Valley
An ideal plant for shaded gardens. When lily of the valley grows, it forms dense thickets, and its fragrance will definitely not leave you indifferent.

Polypodium (Polypodium aureum)
Looks like lily of the valley but with a completely different character. Long arching stems in June are covered with elongated white bells. The plant forms a dense forest cover. Perfect for partial shade.

European cow-wheat (Koppenia europaea)
It is characterized by small height and low maintenance. The leaves in the shape of hooves survive under snow, then gradually change into young ones.

Shadow Phlox (Phlox subulata)
Its name already says everything about the preferences of this plant. Phlox spreads using short surface shoots — stolons, on which new rosettes form. The plant has small white-pink flowers. Perfect for shaded areas.
