It's not too late: what you can plant in the garden in July

It may seem like it's too late to start planting, but that's not true. Many plants take root very well even in the height of summer and bloom in the same season

According to experts, it's time to pay attention to garden plants in pots with closed root systems. It is important to choose the right fertilizer and not forget about abundant watering to help plants survive the heat. The experts from Derevo Park studio explain what you can plant right now.

Roses

In July roses are already blooming, and there is no risk of frost damage. Strong and well-established ones will do well in their new location if you prepare the planting hole for the flower bed in advance and take proper care of them.

Perfect combination for a flower bed: roses + aromatic herbs (sage, catnip, lavender), which can also be planted in July. Such a flower bed looks strikingly beautiful, and the scent of aromatic herbs repels pests from roses.

To fill the lower layer while the flower bed is not yet expanded, you can plant cosmos seeds: they germinate quickly and bloom. They will also harmonize well.

Gravelats, astilbes, and irises

Play with the color palette by choosing the right shades based on already blooming buds: if you plant these plants in spring, you might make color mistakes.

Beautiful together are Siberian iris and lemon lily.

Japanese spiraeas

Among the most low-maintenance and long-flowering plants. They come in various shades: from snow-white and softly pink (Alpina, Little Princess) to rich burgundy (Darts Red).

An interesting effect can be achieved by sorting and planting plants in color waves.

Astilbes in varieties

A low-maintenance and striking perennial that looks great even after flowering.

There are over a hundred varieties of this plant. If it's important to select plants in a specific color palette, it's better to plant them in summer during blooming rather than buy 'a cat in a bag'.

Astilbe is an excellent companion for roses. It shades the lower parts of the bush and helps retain moisture.

Conifers and others

You can plant almost any type of conifer with a closed root system (i.e., those sold in pots) on your plot (plants that are planted in the ground should not be planted at this time).

But you can do it if you have a prepared area for planting, proper fertilization, and shade (if you plan to plant in direct sunlight).

As for vegetable crops: you won't be able to harvest a great yield of radish, better to focus on various types of lettuce and aromatic herbs.
