To keep wooden furniture from losing its appearance over time, clean and treat it with oil once a year. We've prepared a step-by-step guide to help you

Caring for plastic garden furniture is easy: just wipe it periodically with a damp cloth. What about wooden furniture?

In this regard, teak furniture is ideal: it requires no additional care but may change color due to sunlight and humidity. For example, it can turn from golden-brown to silver-gray. To prevent this, treat the furniture with oil and clean it at least once a year.

How to Clean Garden Furniture: Step-by-Step Guide

Wash the furniture with soapy water

Wait a couple of minutes for the moisture to absorb into the surface. Only then begin cleaning.

Use a brush with soft bristles or cloth

Start from the bottom and move upward to avoid streaks on the surface. Do not press hard on the brush. After finishing, check if a more thorough cleaning is needed.

If necessary, use a cleaning product

Use only a special product for cleaning garden furniture. It will help remove old stains and moss.

Rinse the furniture with water from a hose

Remove all soap and cleaning product residue. Be careful not to use a strong water jet, as it may damage the wooden surface.

How to Treat Wood with Oil?

Clean the surface before treatment

After cleaning, let the furniture dry for a day. Store it away from direct sunlight and temperature fluctuations — in a place where the temperature is no lower than 13°C.

Sand the surface

Use sandpaper.

Mix the oil

This is important to do both before and after using it.

Apply oil evenly to the surface

Use a brush or lint-free cotton cloth. As with cleaning, start from the bottom and move upward.

Remove excess oil within 20 minutes

This can be done with a clean cotton cloth. Then consider its disposal (to avoid fire).

Check if one layer is enough

If needed, apply a few more layers.
