Beautiful and Durable: 8 Plants That Suit Our Climate

Our climate is not the most favorable for agriculture. However, there are many plants that thrive in such conditions. We asked experts from the landscape design studio Derevo Park to tell us about the most interesting ones.

Mountain Pine

There are several varieties: all evergreen with dense foliage. Mountain pines adapt well to shaping pruning. They can be planted individually or in groups.

Cossack Junipers

They have a unique shape and color of needles: from gray to golden. They look great in any composition, such as only coniferous plants or combined with deciduous plants and perennials.

Many juniper varieties have a distinctive pyramidal form and feathery, airy branches. They can either cover the ground or gracefully hang from retaining walls. Caring for these plants is not complicated: they are resistant to diseases and pests.

Siberian Fir

A graceful tree with glossy needles, ornamental cones, and elegant branches. It is also resilient and very eye-catching.

Douglas Fir

Will delight in both winter and summer. It can also easily replace the popular fir for New Year’s. However, finding it in stores is not easy: the plant is not popular in Russia.

Apple Tree 'Everest'

Elegant crown shape, white flower foam, and red apples that remain on the branches until spring. So it is not only a beautiful tree but also a 'bird feeder'.

Willow 'Cupid's Arrow'

First and foremost, the tree is interesting for its name: it truly has a crown shaped like an arrow. In winter, it also delights with bright orange branches.

Ornamental Grass 'Molinia'

Although this plant may not delight you all year round, even after frost it looks like a golden fountain. Molinia is an undemanding winter-hardy grass, some varieties of which reach a height of 2–2.5 meters.
