How We Fixed Problems After Remodeling the Bathroom
Let's look at the key points to consider when doing bathroom renovation by yourself
A beginning designer and part-time mom in maternity leave, Yulia Gorbonova, independently decorated an apartment for her mother-in-law. What problems did she encounter during the bathroom renovation? We tell you.
LayoutWhen organizing the space in the bathroom, ventilation pipes had to be hidden in a box together with the toilet installation — this created a niche. It was slightly adjusted to size and a 100 cm wide IKEA cabinet was installed.
MaterialsThe bathroom walls were decorated with 60×60 cm ceramic granite tiles. It was planned to lay them with a 45-degree miter cut at the corners, but this idea was abandoned because workers damaged too much material. In the end, all joints were covered with metal corner pieces.
Epoxy was used for grouting in the shower cabin, but it requires skill to use properly or there is a risk of damaging the surface.
However, the floor was laid with lapattized ceramic granite — this turned out to be a bad decision. It is hard to maintain such a floor as dirt easily gets into its fine-pored structure.
SinkYulia chose a 60 cm wide semi-recessed sink. The shape of the sink is very convenient, as it prevents water from splashing out during washing.
When choosing a mixer, Yulia measured the height of the spout, its length, and the distance to the bottom of the sink so that water would flow as close to the drain as possible. The mixer handle is on the side, which is a very practical solution — fewer droplets from wet hands reach the mixer and it stays cleaner longer.
Shower CabinAll calculations were made by Yulia herself. For the shower cabin in construction form, a tray was raised to create a slope for the drain that matched the toilet drain and properly connected to the vent pipe.
A very convenient thermostatic mixer with a tropical shower was installed in the shower. But there was an issue with water pressure in the building’s risers — it takes a long time to heat up.
By the way, pay attention to the glass door that opens in both directions. With an angular layout of the shower cabin, it’s a real find.
