10 Stylish Bathrooms with IKEA Furniture
How to stylishly decorate a bathroom using mass-produced items
Even if mirrors and vanities from IKEA showrooms are familiar and recognizable, there are many ways to play with them in a fresh and stylish manner. We've gathered nine bathroom designs from projects where this is done best.
European Style + GODMORGEN Vanity with RATTVIKEN Sink
Those who prefer the interior normcore often turn to IKEA for affordable basic items. Travel blogger Darya Sirotina, decorating her Moscow region home in a European style with Eastern motifs, chose a neutral IKEA vanity with a classic-shaped sink for the bathroom adjacent to her bedroom.
The rest was handled by details: large-format ceramic tile resembling white marble, a freestanding bathtub, an unusual chandelier, and Roman-style curtains made of fabric reminiscent of Eastern ikats.
Glass Blocks + GODMORGEN Vanity with ODENSVIK Sink and GRUA MirrorsThe same vanity, but in black, was used by designer Ludmila Davydich in a Moscow trash house project for a couple with a preschooler daughter. Paired with black mirrors and semi-transparent glass blocks, the vanity appears modern and graphic compared to the calm solution from the previous project. It's also important that the sink is double: such rarely chosen in standard apartments, it already looks fresh.
By the way, clients chose this two-bowl model for the daughter: the child doesn’t like brushing teeth alone, so one half of the sink is for mom or dad, and the other for the child.
Gentle Palette + Brutal Design + STOCKHOLM Mirror
Even when neutral, some basic items possess a strong and distinct identity. A clear example is the round IKEA STOCKHOLM mirror with a veneer frame – perhaps it’s due to its similarity with the French modernist Adnet Circulaire Mirror? But such solutions can sound differently in various mood-based bathrooms.
See how light and airy the STOCKHOLM appears in Alexandra Nikulina's bathroom design with soft pink tones, gold finishes, and an abundance of light wood...
... and how brutal it looks in Irina Reichert's expressive bathroom design.
HEMNES Vanity with RATTVIKEN Sink + Unique Handles
Adding individuality to a mass-produced item can also be achieved through a classic overhaul. If repainting isn’t desired, replacing the hardware works, as seen in the Moscow studio bathroom designed by Maria Miken.
Instead of standard knob-style handles that come with the HEMNES vanity, Maria used square handles with a beautiful organic pattern, arranged diagonally to complement the floor tiles.
Cabinet from Kitchen Doors METHOD + Marble Countertop and Classic MixersWhen searching for suitable solutions at IKEA, it's not necessary to limit oneself only to bathroom collections. For example, designers Nadezhda Malaya and Maxim Bondarenko proposed assembling a vanity in the Moscow region home bathroom from IKEA kitchen doors.
Combined with a marble countertop, black classic mixers with three holes, and a Villeroy & Boch sink, the design appears visually luxurious and expressive in the style of Belgian interior design.
Home Spa + Cabinets from Kitchen Doors METHODAnother option: build not only the vanity but also the upper cabinets from kitchen doors. In Tatiana Damiani-Kashchanova's project for a studio in St. Petersburg, the transparent glass doors of the upper cabinets help showcase beautifully arranged aromatic salts and creams on the shelves—like in a spa salon.
Colored Sinks + GLADOM Table and TOWEL HANGER VILTO
Now, let's look at projects where only IKEA accessories were used.
In a house made of glued timber in Samara region, designer Ekaterina Shymkевич selected a wooden towel hanger and a vibrant GLADOM table for bottles, towels, and other bathroom essentials. The towel hanger serves as a background element, while the table is used as an accent: it harmoniously complements the green sinks and supports the concept of an interior in vibrant, saturated colors.
White Tiles + Black Shelf RENSHERDesigner Ekaterina Usikova used this IKEA shelf to enhance a small bathroom in a Moscow trash house. The item stood out beautifully against white tiles and worked well with the geometric black mirror. Several color touches helped tie the black-and-white bathroom theme into the overall home palette: a colorful tile patchwork on the floor, a yellow inspection hatch painted in yellow, and various bathroom accessories placed on the shelf.
Farmhouse Style + HEMNES Shelf to Hide the Boiler
In this project, the IKEA shelf serves two functions. On one side, it stores cosmetic products for the apartment’s owner and interior designer Anastasia Vishnevskaya. On the other side, it hides the boiler.
To implement the idea, a back panel was added and wall mounting carefully planned: when access to the electrical appliance is needed, it’s just a matter of lifting the unit by holding the rail. No design concerns: the minimalist IKEA shelf perfectly fits into the rural farmhouse style.
