Summer Clothes Storage: Where to Store and How to Organize?
An expert on space organization explains how to properly pack and store clothing and shoes in a small apartment. Follow our step-by-step guide to avoid losing anything
Autumn has arrived, yet summer clothes are still visible and take up too much space. We asked a professional space organizer to tell us where to store light footwear and clothes, and how to free up maximum space for winter items.
Olya Kuleshova — a space organizer. She creates individual storage systems, organizes relocations, and develops furniture placement plans.
Important point: Always sort your belongings first, then remove children's and husband's clothes in turn. You can even do this on different days — due to the large volume of items, there's a risk you won't finish the task.
Let's start: gather items in one place and divide them into categories.
For example, you can lay out all summer clothes on the bed and then separate them into dresses, t-shirts, pants and shorts, skirts, headwear.
Carefully inspect each item.
Check the condition of the clothing and think about whether you plan to wear it in the next season — it's better to give or sell the items to avoid taking up space. Also, don't forget to clean or wash the clothes before storing them.
Any defects should be fixed before storing the items. Imagine that in spring you take out the clothes and immediately put them on for a walk. And don't waste time mending!
PinterestPack or hang by shoulders.
Dresses, skirts, pants and blouses are best stored on hangers to avoid deformation. Hang all summer clothes on the side of the wardrobe you don't use daily. Don't forget to place light-colored items in covers so they don’t get dirty.
Put the items in a special box — small and shallow, otherwise it will be hard to find the right item. You can use organizers for each family member or put everything in one — if there are few items. This saves space.
Important rule: one item — one hanger!

How to quickly find the right item? Label it in the format: "summer, name". For example: "summer, son, 3 years old" (age can be added if you're leaving items for a younger child). You can add clothing categories for clarity.
And accessories.
Summer headwear, scarves and hats should also be folded in one place.
Where to store organizers with clothes?
On shelves in the wardrobe or on the attic — they won't get in your way. If there's no space on top shelves, check what's stored there — maybe it's old clothes you no longer need.
If you can't put the clothes up high, hide them under the bed or in underbed drawers. By the way, you can choose organizer sizes based on shelf or drawer dimensions where they will be stored.
Let all organizers be in one style and pastel tones — it looks neat.

The scheme is roughly the same as with clothes: first, clean and fix any defects in the shoes. Then you can store them in organizers with solid sides and bottom. Hack: if you cut partitions, they will fit shoes of any size.
PinterestShoes can be hidden in the upper or lower part of the wardrobe, under the bed, or use vertical storage by attaching shelves to the wall (saving both budget and space).
Also, don't forget to label organizers and boxes or stick photos of the pairs inside. This way you’ll quickly find your favorite shoes or sneakers in spring.
