Throw It Out Immediately: 7 Things That Ruin Interior Design
We've already talked about which items can ruin interior design. Let's continue the topic, but now we're sharing tips from Western designers.
Inappropriate materials in finishing
For example, cheap paint on walls is noticeable right away: it doesn't apply well and peels off quickly, making the interior look untidy. It's better to spend more and choose high-quality and safe materials that will last long.
PinterestToo large or too small furniture
If furniture doesn't match the room size, the interior looks cluttered or incomplete. Before filling space with items, measure it.
Designers recommend leaving about one meter of free space between furniture items whenever possible. You can mark their placement on the floor to see if you have enough room.
PinterestLow-quality fabric upholstery
Furniture with fabrics made from a mix of natural and synthetic fibers—cotton and polyester—is affordable. But even though this isn't purely synthetic, the fabric still pills and looks untidy.
The issue can be solved using a special shaver machine that trims pills. But it's better to choose natural fabrics from the start: linen, cotton, wool, or jute.
PinterestSmall rugs
Rugs often don't match the space. Designers suggest choosing a rug so that it covers the entire seating area. The sofa should fully sit on the rug or stand on it with its front legs.
PinterestVertical blinds
It's much better to use horizontal blinds—these can be custom-made. Or replace the blinds with sliding screens or shutters. An interesting idea is to hang a projector screen over the window. It's convenient for watching movies and no need to think of how to close the windows.
PinterestShort curtains
Even if you can't get custom-made curtains, they should fit your interior perfectly. It's good if the fabric falls just a few centimeters short of the floor. For this, measure the distance from the floor to the ceiling in advance.
If the store doesn't have curtains of the right length, choose longer ones: they can always be shortened.
PinterestPoor lighting
The best option for an apartment is light bulbs with a color temperature of 2700K, which provide soft warm light.
If it's dark at home, add additional lighting sources: wall sconces and lamps won't clutter the space but will add comfort to the room.
