2-room apartment in Sweden with through kitchen
This 2-room apartment with an area of 51 square meters is located in a building from the twentieth century. And it is notable above all for its kitchen. Here it is a through kitchen, combined with a dark corridor and wardrobe, and has no windows at all. Access to daylight is provided by windows in the living room and bedroom located nearby.

The project was entrusted to the Mainstreet Creative Agency team. To adjust the unsuccessful shape of the kitchen and make the apartment's interior interesting and multi-layered, interior stylists decided to play with light, color, and patterns.

Initially, the floor was brown glossy parquet. To connect the floors with the interior, decorators placed dressers, tables, and chairs with a reddish undertone and a pattern echoing the parquet. Cold gray-blue shades helped balance an abundance of warm colors, which were used to paint the walls.

For the dark kitchen, they chose a white cabinet, dining table in tone, and Viennese chairs. To make the through space dynamic, they covered the backsplash and one of the walls with tiles featuring a bold Moroccan pattern.
The lack of natural color was compensated by attention to artificial lighting, providing spotlights on the ceiling, spots in upper cabinets, and additional bare light bulbs by the wall.

To diversify the interior and make it more expressive, stylists used patterns as they did in the kitchen, specifically their complex combinations. In the living room, for example, orange-red shades were used for diverse prints on cushions and a carpet. Combining pashmina and small rhombuses in the bedroom was achieved using a black-and-white palette.

As a finishing touch to the interior work, decorators added a portion of deep green tones using curtains in the living room, drapery in the corridor, kitchen towels, and many live plants.
Despite the variety of colors in the interior, green does not compete with any of them. Probably, this technique can be safely categorized as universal.
