Vintage IKEA Collection: What to Buy?

Collectors of Scandinavian design are always eager to get their hands on past IKEA collections, and some pieces of furniture and decor have become classics.

This autumn, you will be able to buy reissues of legendary items in IKEA stores. However, they now come with new names and are made from modern materials. We tell you what to pay attention to in the vintage collection series.

Furniture from the 1950s

What makes it special? This era is characterized by dark wood and classic furniture silhouettes.

Iconic piece: The Lövbacken table (formerly known as Lövet). It was first released in 1956. Today, the table legs are made of birch with yellow metal caps, and the tabletop is made from poplar veneer.

Another iconic item is the Stradmon chair, which will be released in the vintage collection with velvet upholstery. Of course, attention is also drawn to the Gagnet chair in mid-century modern style — IKEA designers made it woven.

What makes it special? Bright upholstery colors and textiles with ironic geometric prints.

Iconic items — the Klippan soft sofa, the Råane metal chair, and the Färgstark carpet. By the way, Klippan was one of the first affordable sofas that IKEA ever released.

Minimalism and functionality are the main features of this era.

What makes it special? In this collection, IKEA designers focused on unfinished light-colored wood and graphic patterns.

Iconic furniture — a bench with a wheel instead of legs on one side, the Bjurån “Vienna” chair, and the Ekenäset chair with thin legs and soft upholstery.
