6 More Incredible Transformations of Old Apartments
Continuing to explore before and after renovation photos of interiors: they inspire change and prove that even a very old apartment has a chance for a "second life".
One-room flat in a brick building

This old apartment in the center of Moscow was transformed by designers Ekaterina and Anton Korneevs into a bright cozy studio for rent. For this, a radical re-planning was required: the living room was merged with the kitchen, and a space for a full bedroom was created in place of the former corridor.
The finishing is budget-friendly, mostly done by hand, and the decor comes from European flea markets. Although it seems simple, the difference from what was there before is obvious.
Two-room flat in modern style

During the renovation in a two-room flat in a Stalin-era building, only minor changes were needed. The elongated bedroom was slightly reduced to make room for a wardrobe.
However, the interior design architect Karina Zadvina from the design studio Porte Rouge played on contrast: modern finishes and furniture blend with elements of Stalin-era decor. Muted cool tones with more expressive accents.
Light flat in a Stalin-era building

In the layout of this flat in a Stalin-era building, almost nothing could be changed: 1-meter thick walls dictated the placement of rooms. However, the clients fully trusted designer Aся Bondarova and in the end received a light, airy interior in classic style — with light walls, wooden furniture, and elegant decor.
Decorator's flat in the center of Moscow

Her own flat in a 1896-built building became the most challenging project in Lena Lenskikh’s professional career. The decorator had to fully reconstruct the space: restore floors, change the floor and utility systems.
As a result of extensive work, the flat was completely transformed, filled with furniture and decor found at flea markets, the owner’s graphics, and street artists’ drawings.
Two-room flat in classic style

A couple living outside the city needed to occasionally stay in the city, so they decided to buy an apartment and hire a designer. They wanted the future space to be entirely in classic style, which the designer Olga Chernenko successfully achieved.
Former communal flat in "House on the Embankment"

Designers from ZE-MOOV HOME created a budget-friendly version of an interior reminiscent of luxurious flats in the famous "House on the Embankment" on Bolotnaya Island. To do this, they had to demolish all the walls in the communal flat and replace the original finishing materials with more economical ones.
