Bedroom with a Crib
During their first years, infants live in the same room as their parents. It's important to properly arrange a bedroom with a crib so that both the child and parents are comfortable.
Becoming a parent is a significant event that future parents prepare for in advance. Special effort is made to create a comfortable sleeping area. Often, the baby's first room is the parents' bedroom.
The design of a bedroom with a crib directly depends on its size. If the room is large, it's easy to arrange necessary furniture items: a crib, a changing table, and a wardrobe for clothes. However, most people live in small rooms, and they must rearrange the space to accommodate all the baby's belongings.

Clear zoning is always necessary. A crib in the parents' bedroom needs a temporary place. At the same time, homeowners must preserve the integrity of the interior design. This is the main feature when combining a room for adults and children. Ideally, furniture and accessories should be in one style and color palette. However, combining elements of different styles is acceptable if they look harmonious together.
The design of a marital bedroom with a crib will look much more harmonious if the room is visually divided into zones. Proper zoning benefits all family members. The infant will have their own cozy corner, while parents get some personal space.
If the room size allows, full partitions can be installed. The advantage of this option is that it provides complete isolation for the baby, allowing them to rest peacefully, protected from external irritants. The disadvantage is that partitions visually reduce the room size.

Another equally popular method of zoning the bedroom is using wardrobes or shelves to separate the crib from the rest of the room. These furniture items should not be placed directly next to each other if books, figurines, and other items are stored on the shelves. There's a risk that these items could fall into the crib and injure the baby.

If the bedroom doesn't have impressive dimensions, radical zoning methods shouldn't be applied. Otherwise, the space will become even smaller. What should be done in this case?
The solution to this problem lies in using a mobile screen. It can be easily placed during nap time and moved aside when the baby is awake.
A crib with a canopy or curtain looks wonderful. Light fabric protects from bright light and insects. If you like this option, choose dust-repelling material.

There are several other effective methods of separation:
lighting;
wall color scheme;
decoration.
In the adult part of the bedroom, artificial lighting is usually brighter. Also, there are often floor lamps near the marital bed. Near the crib, point light fixtures with diffused light and night lights are placed.

Wall decoration can differ in color or material. You could do a stenciled painting on wallpaper. But it's easier to highlight the baby’s area with various decorations. Photos, drawings, stickers, toys, garlands — all these are just part of what can be used for decoration. Don’t use everything at once. Choose a favorite option and integrate it into the setting. The baby’s corner will look much cozier.

Even the crib itself can be a bright element. For example, for a boy, you could choose a bed shaped like a pirate ship or car. A girl would be a real princess in her carriage.

Adding coziness to the adult part of the room can be done with proper accessories: curtains or blankets. It's better if their prints match. Bedside lamps with fabric shades also look cute and appropriate.
If the bedroom will be combined with a child's room, it’s better to cover the walls with paper or fleece wallpapers. They are ecologically safe because they are made from natural materials. If you plan to paint the walls, use quality paint without solvents. Otherwise, there's a risk of an allergic reaction in the baby.

The bedroom walls should be decorated in subtle light or neutral tones. The following colors are ideal:
pink,
light green,
blue,
cream,
light gray,
beige.
Many people already decorate their bedrooms in these colors. Therefore, there's a high chance that no changes will be needed when the baby arrives.

The wall color in the adult part of the room and the baby’s area can differ. The child's zone can contrast with the adult zone. Alternatively, both parts of the room can be decorated in light tones but with different shades. Or one wall next to the crib can be highlighted with a different color.

The wall doesn’t have to be solid-colored. It can be decorated with illustrations of fairy tale characters or cartoon heroes. Interesting are names of children written on the wall. Family photos can also be used for decoration.
LightingLighting plays an important role in the interior of a bedroom with a crib. The main rule for organizing light fixtures: bright lights should be mounted over functional zones, and soft lighting should be arranged in the baby’s corner. The room should remain bright, creating a semi-dark atmosphere only during the newborn's sleep time.
The room should have many light fixtures, each performing its own function. A central chandelier with a dimmer is recommended. When installing the main light fixture, check that the light doesn't shine directly into the baby's face.

Aside from overhead lighting, a bedroom with a crib in the parents' room needs a nightlight. Soft light doesn't disturb family members sleeping, but it allows the mother to calmly approach the baby if he becomes fussy at night. Also, from the parents’ bed, one can see if the infant is properly covered. An alternative to a nightlight is a suspended ceiling with night lighting.
CurtainsWhen decorating the interior of a bedroom with a crib, time should be dedicated to choosing curtains. Often parents choose window treatments based solely on personal taste and overall room décor. However, it's better to base the choice on functionality. Properly chosen curtains help control the amount of sunlight entering the bedroom.
Opt for solid-colored curtains made from dense fabric. In the mornings, they won't let in bright rays of sunlight. Thus, the newborn will sleep peacefully. Curtains also provide the right atmosphere for the baby's daytime nap.

For a bedroom with a fitted crib, the ideal option would be curtains made from opaque fabric without excessive folds or complex draping. They will effectively fulfill their main function and won't collect dust.
It's preferable that the curtains be in neutral colors. These tones have a calming effect on the psyche of the small family member. In addition, such shades look stylish.
Design: Svetlana Starceva>RugsA fluffy rug adds warmth to any room. However, a bedroom with a crib doesn't usually feature a carpeted floor. This is because rugs tend to accumulate dust, which can trigger allergies in the baby.
However, it’s not necessary to completely abandon this soft item. Small rugs that are frequently cleaned are completely safe.
Where to Place the CribThe parents’ bed is the main piece of furniture in the room. Children will leave the bedroom when they grow up. Therefore, their temporary stay shouldn't disrupt the design harmony.

The baby's crib in the parents' bedroom is usually placed next to the adult bed during the first years of the child's life. Mothers move the crib close and remove the adjacent side rail. This way, the newborn sleeps with parents. It’s a convenient option that eases nighttime feeding.
The downside of this placement is the difficulty in changing the bed linens. Also, it might be hard for the mother to approach the crib. But these problems won’t occur if you buy a crib on wheels.

Another common placement is opposite the marital bed. This way, the baby is constantly in the parents’ view. When the child grows up, this spot can be used for a changing table or wardrobe.

The crib can also be placed in a corner near the adult bed. It's best if it's the far corner from the door, so outside noise won't disturb the baby’s sleep. If you choose the corner near the door (as shown in the photo), pay attention to avoid drafts.

In a spacious parent's bedroom, the crib can be placed in the center of the room. Provided that the necessary safety requirements are met.
What to AvoidThe crib should not be placed near sources of cold or heat. Even from the latest window models, drafts can occur. Overheating is just as dangerous as underheating. Therefore, don’t place the sleeping area near radiators.
Don't position the crib so that bright lights shine directly into the baby's face. Maternal light during the day and dim lighting at night are sufficient.
There should be no power outlets or items near the crib that can fall on the child. Don't collect decorative items in the bedroom as they gather dust.
Additional Furniture ItemsIf the room size allows, place a wardrobe or changing table. This significantly eases the care of the infant. Necessary items will always be within reach, just by pulling out a drawer. The tabletop is convenient for changing diapers.

A chair for the mother will allow comfortable breastfeeding. If possible, buy one with fleece upholstery. This material is not only pleasant to touch but also easy to clean.

Set up a play area. Initially, just a small part of the room is needed to place a playpen. As the child grows, they will need a soft mat for crawling with toys.
Don't hesitate to invest time and effort into transforming the bedroom. The reward will be invaluable moments spent with your little one.
