8 Ideas for Designing a Small Bedroom
Floating bed, built-in wardrobe, suspended ceiling with a bold print – we share interesting design solutions for decorating small rooms
What experiments with finishing and furniture do our designers go to for creating a comfortable interior! Let's look at the best ones and take notes.
1. Floating Bed
Economizing every centimeter, architects from Yurov Interiors tried to visually lighten the bedroom area by 'hanging' the bed and upper part of the shelf in the air.

As a result of the apartment redesign, architect Maria Dadiani's flat now has a small cozy bedroom with a large built-in wardrobe for storing clothes. The wardrobe doors are decorated with mirrors, creating the feeling of additional space.

3. Fold-down BedIf space is very limited, designers prefer custom-made furniture. For example, in this small studio, a fold-down bed appeared. It has storage systems on the sides and during the day is stored in a cabinet, thus expanding the space.

Designers from Int2 Architecture placed a bed on a platform in the bedroom to visually separate the living room and bedroom areas on one hand, and gain extra storage space for bulky items (quilts, pillows, bed linen) on the other.

An unusual trick – a ceiling with a print of banana palm leaves in the bedroom. "When reviewing photos, this ceiling causes a lot of debate: many claim it presses on the head. In reality, it's a distortion from a wide-angle lens used to fit the entire room into the frame," says designer Maya Baklan. "I consciously used this trick on the ceiling to visually lower it a bit: with an area of only 12 square meters and 3-meter-high ceilings, the room looked like a well."

Decorator Zhenya Zhudanova recommends focusing on a rich blue color: it has magical properties – visually expanding the room.

A large floor mirror – another way to visually increase the room area and double the amount of light. If the bedroom is dark, place such a mirror opposite the window.

And probably the easiest and most budget-friendly way to divert attention from the room size – decorate the wall with original decor, and the bed with colorful decorative pillows.
