We learned from a feng shui specialist about where to place the bed, which model to prefer, and how to decorate the room to attract well-being and love into your life.

It is important to arrange the bedroom so that the interior gives you a sense of security, comfort, and peace. The quality of the space where you rest directly affects your health, energy level, mood, and ultimately your success.

A marital bedroom is a special space, as one of the main goals of feng shui in living spaces is to maintain harmonious and strong relationships between people, which is the foundation of a healthy home atmosphere. If you have not yet met your partner, proper bedroom arrangement can help accelerate this happy event.

1. Well-Planned Space

The bedroom belongs to the yin energy category, so it's important to maintain a calm and gentle flow of energy here. Choose a room that is protected from direct sunlight and external noise, and located far from the entrance door.

In a private house, it's better to place the bedroom on the upper floor. A guest room can be on the first floor. Also, avoid rooms with irregular shapes or slanted ceilings. The main entrance, bathroom, and other rooms where active activities take place (e.g., a gym or children's room) should not be located above the bedroom. This disrupts the smooth flow of Chi and leads to an imbalance between yin and yang energies.

2. Principles of Furniture Placement

Proper bed placement creates an atmosphere of security and calm, which is essential for healthy sleep. Check that your bed is positioned to maximize the accumulation of Chi: diagonally from the entrance. Avoid the "corpse position," where the foot of the bed faces the door directly.

Place the bed so that you can walk up to it freely from both sides. The ideal placement is with the headboard against a wall that ideally does not neighbor the bathroom, stove, or sink.

Often, one can see the bed placed with its headboard facing the window, but this is too active yang energy that does not align with sleep function. A common design trick—poufs or a sofa at the foot of the bed—is actually in harmony with feng shui principles, which suggest that an open space in front of the house is favorable for energy to gather and enter. This configuration can be replicated miniaturized in front of the bed, allowing more Chi to accumulate and support you during rest.

3. Proper Bed Selection

When choosing a bed, the price and trendy design are less important than its shape, headboard, mattress, and even height. These factors create specific energetic influences on a person, and the correctness of bed selection affects your health and peaceful sleep.

Should you choose a bed or a sofa? Definitely a bed, preferably a double bed. A sofa visually and physically divides the energies of partners, limiting space for full rest. For this reason, a single large mattress should be used on the bed. Even if you don't have a partner yet, choose a double bed with one mattress and two pillows. Round beds are highly undesirable: their shape is too active and unstable, not suitable for sleep.

The headboard symbolizes protection: the stronger and larger it is, the more secure and restful your sleep will be. Choose a model made of solid and durable material—comfortable sleep is guaranteed. The ideal shape of the headboard visually unites partners (rounded, dome-shaped, or rectangular). Sharp, triangular, or irregular headboard shapes represent excessive yang energy that interferes with recovery, worsens stress, and causes headaches.

4. Lightness of Life

Ensure that sharp angles of furniture and walls do not point toward you in the bedroom, and that wardrobes or heavy furniture do not hang over you. Nothing should psychologically press down on you during sleep, or else you will spend energy instead of restoring it.

It is very important that there is free space above the bed and headboard projection. Overhead beams, chandeliers, lights, shelves, heavy pictures, or air conditioners disrupt the atmosphere of security and create pressure energy. You may not realize it, but your body is structured so that subconsciously it will try to defend against this destructive flow of energy, leading to a drain of strength. Therefore, it is preferable to avoid chandeliers above the bed and instead install lamps or wall sconces on both sides of the bed, with general lighting provided by spotlights.

If beams are structural elements, it's better to make them inconspicuous (paint them in the color of the ceiling), decorate them with textiles, or install a canopy above the bed.

5. Art of Decoration

For a bedroom decorated according to feng shui principles, soft lighting and soothing, warm, and gentle pastel tones are preferred. Avoid bright or overly dark and contrasty color schemes: yang-rich decor is acceptable only as accents that maintain the balance between yin and yang energies.

Flowers, representing yang energy, are not welcomed in bedroom decor, and items related to the water element (aquariums, fountains, images of water) should also be avoided. Forget about a TV or desk—active yang energy is incompatible with the function of a bedroom.

However, having photographs of married couples is very appropriate: they support the "pair energy" in the bedroom. The same function is performed by nightstands, bedside lamps, and mats placed next to the bed.

Check whether you reflect in mirrors or other mirror surfaces (including mirror ceilings) while lying on the bed. If yes, correct this situation urgently: reflection weakens you during sleep, whereas your task is to restore and replenish your energy. Don't be lazy about making the bed every day: any disorder or chaos disrupts the flow of energy and, consequently, creates obstacles in your life.
