How to Choose a Bathtub
Materials for Bathtub Manufacturing
Classic cast iron bathtubs, which we've known since childhood, have the longest lifespan when treated with care and proper maintenance, and can retain their attractive appearance for many years. Cast iron has high thermal capacity and prevents deformation under hot water or body weight.
However, the enamel coating on the tub is extremely vulnerable to damage and difficult to repair. Additionally, cast iron bathtubs are exclusively rectangular and very heavy, making transportation and installation difficult.
Steel bathtubs are the most affordable and look no worse than cast iron models. They are significantly lighter and come in various unique shapes. However, many buyers are deterred by their low heat retention and unpleasant sounds made by water during filling.
Today, the most popular bathtubs are made from reinforced plastic. Known as acrylic, this material retains heat well, is lightweight, and allows for bathtubs of any shape. Moreover, this versatile material is highly wear-resistant, available in a wide range of colors, and easy to clean.
High-quality acrylic bathtubs have a base made of metal mesh or fiberglass. The only drawback is that cleaning agents containing solvents should not be used.
Bathtub Shape and Size
After assessing the available space in the bathroom, you can move on to choosing the size and shape of the bathtub. For spacious rooms, a round or oval model placed in the center works perfectly. For rooms with a corner, a corner bathtub is preferable. Rectangular bathtubs suit all other configurations.
When selecting sanitary equipment, consider your personal needs and body proportions. For maximum comfort during bathing, the person should fit in a semi-reclined position. The chosen model should not be too long or deep; an optimal basin size will significantly reduce water consumption and improve usability.
Additional Features
Some bathtubs come with additional features that can turn a simple bath into a relaxing and beneficial experience. These include various types of hydrotherapy, built-in radio, water lighting, special cushions, grab bars, disinfection systems, and more. Additional features in modern bathtubs not only improve efficiency but also increase cost.
