Lightweight and durable gypsum board has long earned a reputation as one of the most reliable finishing materials. If in the past it was used only to level walls, today its possibilities are much wider.

1. Decorate the Ceiling

It is no secret that ceilings are often leveled with gypsum board, but we suggest going further and decorating the upper level of your home with whimsical shapes. Gypsum board is a very malleable material. With its help, you can make a multi-level ceiling, install lighting along all "floors," or simply emphasize the area where the central light fixture is located with various forms of projections. This decorative technique has only one taboo: low ceilings. However, if your home has white walls, you can take a risk.

2. Zone the Space

Besides its purely utilitarian function of leveling walls, gypsum board can also be used to create internal partitions. The key here is to exercise reasonable restraint. Working with gypsum board, it's easy to get carried away, but remember: your task is to carefully zone the room rather than clutter the space with complex shapes. For example, a light white partition fits perfectly into a loft-style interior, and a black "hanging" divider won't weigh down the design even with its color.

3. Use Built-in Niches

Gypsum board is easy to work with, so it is often used for building shelves and niches not planned in the apartment layout. This step allows you to increase small spaces: a wardrobe will look more substantial in the interior than built-in shelves painted to match the wall color.

4. Build an Arch

Archways are similarly incorporated into interior design to avoid taking up space for the door's opening trajectory. Additionally, curved lines of arches balance angular minimalist interiors and do not interfere with even light distribution throughout the home. Few people know that gypsum board can be easily bent. To do this, the material should be scored multiple times on one side and folded into a multi-faceted surface. Spackle helps to give the arch its final shape.

5. Decorate the Fireplace

If you have long dreamed of a cozy fireplace but thought it had no place in an urban apartment, we have good news. A false fireplace in a city interior can be just as expressive, where instead of a fire, candles or other attractive accessories are arranged. The simplest way to create an impressive portal for such a fireplace is to cut out the base from gypsum board and decorate it with moldings.
