Located in the picturesque village of Novouspenskoye beyond Moscow, the Uspenskoye House by Kerimov Architects is an impressive 7965 square foot home that harmoniously integrates into the slope and forest environment. The design emphasizes natural light and serene panoramas, creating a modern interpretation of contextual architecture that combines an elegant spatial plan with ecological consciousness.

Architectural Response to the Terrain

Situated on a plot with a pronounced slope, the house layout thoughtfully considers the topography. The garage and main entrance are located at the lowest point, providing unlimited views and optimal solar exposure for the upper sections of the building. This arrangement ensures a seamless transition between interior space and the surrounding pine and birch landscape.

One of the key features of this project is the inner courtyard, a tranquil and private space that all main rooms face toward. This approach enhances the concept of seclusion while maintaining a constant visual connection with nature. It also enabled architects to preserve 80% of existing trees on the site.

Architectural Composition: Three Harmonious Volumes

The house consists of three interconnected volumes, each designed for a specific function:

  • Volume One: Main public and private zones. The first floor features an open living and kitchen space next to a hidden functional kitchen. On the second floor, there is a peaceful workshop with a bed, wardrobe, and bathroom.

  • Volume Two: Serves both practical and recreational purposes. Includes a garage, auxiliary rooms, and an office that can also function as a guest room. This volume houses the SPA zone with a floating bathtub, gym, and two children's rooms.

  • Volume Three: Designed for staff accommodation, ensuring privacy for both residents and personnel.

A two-story corridor connects the volumes and serves as a dramatic transition. This corridor, adorned with extensive glazing, becomes an art gallery for the owners' personal collection—transforming movement into an engaging experience of light and texture.

Interaction with Nature: Terraces and Textural Balance

The house includes three outdoor terraces, offering both ground-level and elevated views. Two are located near the living room and dining area, perfect for evening gatherings, while the third, adjacent to the workshop, offers a secluded relaxation spot.

Kerimov Architects used a subtle balance of materials and textures—contrasting light and dark finishes, horizontal and vertical lines, dense and transparent elements—to align the house with its forest environment. This interplay of opposites enriches the architectural experience and reflects the studio's philosophy: every project deserves architecture that belongs to it alone.

The Uspenskoye House is more than just housing—it's a complete dialogue between architecture, landscape, and lifestyle. Its understated elegance and deep connection to nature showcase the architectural studio Kerimov's commitment to meaningful, place-based design.
