Good House Rodrigo Vilas Boas Arquitetos in Brazil
In Campinas, São Paulo State, Brazil the Good House (Casa O BEM) by Rodrigo Vilas Boas Arquitetos serves as a modern sanctuary that harmoniously integrates into the natural environment. Completed in 2022, it features 11,226 square feet of living space on a large plot of 46,700 m² in Serra das Cabras, designed to encompass stunning panoramic views and ensure privacy from neighboring houses and the street.
Using the Slope for Design and Privacy
The house was strategically placed on a steep slope, turning the challenging terrain into an architectural advantage. Elevated living areas provide a continuous view of preserved nature, while the slope itself acts as a natural barrier, protecting the house from outside views. The horizon remains visible from the street, maintaining landscape continuity.
Architectural Composition
The dwelling is organized as two interconnected volumes, positioned at different heights to follow the contours of the land. The elevated gastronomic terrace provides air circulation, directing southern winds across the site while offering shelter from heat and rain.
The entry hall immediately visualizes the wide horizon, inviting guests to interact with the landscape upon arrival. Throughout the house, architecture balances solid and voids, featuring a single visible exposed column, maintaining continuous connection between the structure and the panorama.
Raw Materials in Harmony with Nature
The Good House emphasizes a palette of raw, tactile materials to create dialogue with the surrounding environment:
-
Rough Roman travertine brings timeless elegance.
-
Cumaru wood fills interiors with warmth.
-
Molèdo stone adds regional tradition to the structure.
-
Exposed concrete highlights strength and modernity.
These materials remain honest and unrefined, reinforcing the house's role as a protective sanctuary and homage to the surrounding nature.
Family-Oriented Design
Built for family living, the dwelling unites open and flowing spaces to stimulate interaction and shared experiences. Large windows and integrated layouts ensure each room has a panoramic horizon. Functional yet contemplative, the house offers places for gatherings as well as quiet private corners.
Casa O BEM: Gratitude Through Architecture
The name Casa O BEM (“Good House”) reflects the client’s vision of the house as a gesture of gratitude — to life, family and nature. Preserving views and harmonizing with its setting, the dwelling transcends ordinary luxury, becoming a living expression of balance and appreciation.
