Suburban Villa | Nacházel Architekti | Prague, Czech Republic
Contemporary suburban comfort combining art, sports and nature
Located on the quiet outskirts of Prague, the suburban villa by Nacházel Architekti redefines modern family living through the blend of art, architecture and landscape. The design is tailored for a young four-person family passionate about sports and art. This single-story house combines privacy and openness, uniting elegant geometry, sustainable technologies, and tactile materials.
At first glance, the house appears modest—its form is largely hidden from the street due to the slope of the plot. However, beneath the parking roof unfolds a sequence of sculptural volumes and garden courtyards, forming a private territory defined by light, proportions, and harmony.
Spatial Composition: Four Wings and One Central Core
The villa's layout is built around a central entrance hall, held up by an curved concrete staircase leading to the main living area. From this core, four separate wings extend in different directions, each dedicated to a specific function: family living, relaxation, sleep, and well-being.
Each wing has direct access to its private garden, creating a series of enclosed outdoor 'rooms'. These green courtyards bring natural light deep into the house's plan while offering constantly changing views from within. Linear corridors, sequences of connected rooms, provide visual continuity throughout the house, creating long perspectives that enhance spatial rhythm and flow.
This organization allows architecture to breathe in four directions, seamlessly integrating interior and exterior spaces while maintaining an atmosphere of tranquility and seclusion.
Honest Materials and Refined Craftsmanship
Nacházel Architekti used a restrained palette that highlights the honesty of materials and refined detail. Walls and staircase are made from exposed concrete, revealing the raw strength of structure, while polished white interior surfaces add brightness and calm.
Natural stone covers bathrooms and the indoor pool, adding texture and durability. Wooden facades of kitchen cabinets and finishes bring warmth to private zones. The interplay between these materials—concrete, stone, and wood—creates a visual and tactile balance between strength and comfort.
The result is an interior that feels sculptural yet cozy, minimalist but undoubtedly practical for daily life.
Gardens as an Extension of Living Space
Each of the four gardens in the villa has a unique atmosphere and function, reflecting the character of adjacent rooms. Designed with a low concrete wall, the outdoor spaces are planned to evolve into richly green enclosed areas, ensuring both privacy and peace.
The gardens are more than just views—they are integrated elements of everyday life, places for rest, contemplation and seasonal change. Together they form a microcosm reminiscent of a park, within the suburban setting, strengthening dialogue between architecture and nature.
Sustainability and Ecological Design
Sustainability lies at the heart of the villa's design philosophy. The house operates with a geothermal heat pump, providing floor heating in winter and efficient cooling in summer. Passive strategies—strategic shading, thermal mass, and natural ventilation—ensure year-round comfort with minimal energy consumption.
All rainwater from the roof is collected in underground tanks for reuse in irrigation and maintenance, reducing the home's ecological footprint.
Through these systems, Nacházel Architekti demonstrate that luxury and ecological responsibility can coexist flawlessly in contemporary residential architecture.
A Modern Czech Work of Art
The suburban villa is a testament to the Czech tradition of rational design, where clarity of form, respect for materials and sensitivity to context converge in quiet beauty.
By combining sustainable technologies with an architectural language of precision and restraint, Nacházel Architekti did not simply build a house. They created a private world for art, family and reflection, where modernity and nature find the perfect balance.
