How to Make Your Home Cozier with Soft Lighting

We'll say it again and again: a room with five lamps is cozier and more homey than one large lamp.

We must be honest: although we love all kinds of lamps — floor, wall, table, pendant, small, designer, huge or even chandeliers — we would never entrust one lamp with the responsibility of lighting an entire space.

This practice is still common in many Spanish salons, but it's outdated both aesthetically and from a practical standpoint. It leads to dark and shadowy areas, which are undesirable, and the lighting often turns out unsatisfactory where it should be good.

Look at this room: there is no light source from above, and nighttime lighting depends entirely on soft lighting or lamps and candles that contribute to this.

Only one pendant lamp is installed above the dining table, because the kitchen, dining room and living room are in one open space. It has a long cord to better direct the light onto the table. It is only needed in this open space; other areas are lit by candles, a floor lamp, a small lamp by the window, another one in the last bedroom and even an LED lamp hidden behind kitchen appliances.

Imagine if the room had only one or two fluorescent ceiling lamps tightly attached to the ceiling or with a short cord — this is also quite common in Spain. The lighting would be terrible, and we wouldn't have enough light to perform all tasks. Sitting at night wouldn't feel cozy either.

Try adding more sources of soft lighting to your home these December days instead of central lighting to notice the change in atmosphere. Embrace it!
