Loft with View of the Harbor Line in Seattle

Jeremy Bittman

Harbor Loft, designed by Olson Kundig Architects, is a condominium built into the 35th floor of a skyscraper in downtown Seattle, USA, as if specifically intended to offer a sense of solitude with breathtaking views of the harbor and coastline below.

The architects left the space as open as possible, allowing the view to flow effortlessly toward the harbor. In the room with a wide vista of the coastline through floor-to-ceiling windows, furniture pieces float like islands. Soft and natural tones, in harmony with the classic aesthetic of American Northwest architecture, blend well with warm shades of sky and sea.

Oak panels were introduced on the staircase landing, in the kitchen, and adjacent living area, replacing white ceilings and walls.

The dining table made of walnut and bronze, designed by studio leader Jim Olson, a custom leather ottoman, handcrafted cushions, and carefully placed artworks, all contribute to giving the residence a distinctive character.
