Undersea Restaurant in Norway
Architectural firm Snøhetta has unveiled the concept of the Under restaurant in the Lindesnes municipality, Norway. Located at the southernmost point of the country's rocky coastline, where northern and southern storms meet, this 495-square-meter restaurant also functions as a marine life research center.
At the mezzanine level and in the bar area, where the descending building touches the water, a vertical window is cut through to the very seabed. Through this window, visitors can observe the shifting waterline dancing with the intensity of the wind. The dining area on the lowest level seats 40 guests. A horizontal window, 11 meters wide and 3.4 meters high, visually connects guests to the wild outdoors like a gateway to the sea. This view changes gradually throughout the day and season, with the water color shifting from sapphire blue in cold winter days to emerald green in summer due to algae.
A complex lighting system minimizes reflections from the panoramic window. The restaurant's lighting can be easily adjusted to suit various interior and exterior conditions. Artificial lighting is also installed on the seabed, which attracts fish during dark hours.
