Located in Ukiah, a small town in Northern California, USA, this rural house comfortably sits in the shade of vineyards and sprawling walnut trees. The local vintners, clients of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson studio, commissioned the renovation of the old house to make it more modern without significant restructuring. The architects solved the task through subtle adjustments of window openings and internal partitions, as well as adding key unifying elements.
The kitchen, which received a new, larger volume compared to the original, became the heart of the house and leads to an expanded terrace, beyond which are the pool, guest wing, and restored water tower. The yard with views of vineyards offers numerous entertainment options, including built-in barbecue, fire pit, and a boules court.
