This small volunteer house in Noorderpark was designed by cc-studio architecture firm in Utrecht, Netherlands. The 35 square meter Thoreau's Cabin project is hidden in the forest and covered with lush foliage to become noticeable only at the last moment of approach. Two large sliding doors are located on the corner of the building, opening the interior space outward and connecting it to surrounding green meadows and young trees. The house has no water or electricity, and local wood is used for heating and the kitchen. The centerpiece of the interior is a sculptural fireplace, which becomes the heart of the building and support for the aluminum roof structure. The house's grounds include a storage room, restroom, and dining area. Simple and cozy decor looks harmoniously with the natural beauty of the park's surroundings.
