Three-Bedroom House in South Tyrol
Runkelsteiner is a three-story residential building designed by JM Architecture studio in Bolzano, Italy.
The building's envelope is almost entirely transparent, allowing natural light to flood the interior spaces and minimizing the structure's impact on the environment. The eastern, southern, and western sides feature a combination of thin white frames and vertical aluminum blinds, while the northern facade is almost devoid of openings.
White frames define various interior spaces and form independent terraces that extend the interiors. The unframed glass enclosures create a sense of continuity between internal and external spaces.
The building meets the highest level of energy certification due to triple glazing on the facades, thick insulation from the north side, photovoltaic panels, and solar collectors installed on the roof, as well as ventilation systems in each residence. Calculations analyzing solar radiation and shadow distribution were taken into account during the design phase to prevent overheating of apartments in warm summer months.
