Glass Villa on Lake Shore in Britain

Architectural bureau Mecanoo realized the project of a glass villa on the shore of a lake in Gloucestershire, Britain. The principles of openness and sustainability were at the core of the concept, aiming to make the residence part of the landscape and connect the interior with surrounding beauty. The house was designed from the inside out, gradually expanding internal zones and creating continuous panoramic views of a green oasis of trees and plants, which in turn provide a sense of comfort and protection, hiding the villa from outsiders.

The open space of the villa is divided into functional zones by interior elements such as a fireplace and storage systems, creating secluded corners within the large transparent volume. The central atrium connects all levels of the villa and creates a series of diagonal and vertical sightlines, while flooding the space with abundant daylight.
