Long Lake House in Canada28 photos
Located in a beautiful setting near the U.S. border in Quebec, Canada, the Slender House, designed by MU Architecture studio, unfolds as an elongated linear volume.
The building is firmly anchored in the rock thanks to numerous stone retaining walls and terraces. The volume made of local granite serves as a base for an impressive roof over 130 meters long with sharp edges. From the exterior facade, a large glass bay window marks the entrance, immediately offering a view of the lake.
Strict and rough on the outside, the interior of the house unexpectedly delights with spacious and bright interiors.
Large bay windows, skylights, and pristine white walls flood the space with light. Ceiling heights reach up to 7.5 meters in some areas.
All rooms of the residence are designed forming a unified linear row. In addition to the owners' bedroom, there are two more bedrooms with bathrooms and a small adjacent hallway, as well as a sauna and fitness room.
The built-in kitchen furniture and fireplace, behind which the television is hidden behind panels, were meticulously planned to mask all technical elements.
The whiteness of the kitchen can be seen as a continuation of the walls and ceiling, while the island emerges as a transformation of the oak floor.
Using the same materials as the main house, the lake cottage offers an additional mini-kitchen and a magnificent rooftop terrace perfect for watching sunsets.
