La villa sul Palazzo is a luxurious residence in Rome, Italy, located in a historic building known as Villa Carrega. The house was built in 1912 for Prince Carrega. In 1955, the villa was expanded to accommodate the female monastic community of the Congregation of the Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Several years ago, the building ceased its religious function and returned to residential use. The renovation was carried out by architects from Ramon Esteve Estudio.
When assembling the material palette, the architects paid respect to the historical appearance of the building. Roman travertine, Calacatta marble, and copper create an environment reminiscent of what once existed here. The contrast between the rough texture of travertine and the refined luster of marble creates a particularly sensory atmosphere.
Calacatta marble's caramel tones are accentuated by the presence of gold, introduced through copper and repeatedly amplified by the reflection of mirror glass.
The eclectic interior design is largely shaped by the sculptural placement of antique furniture. Rectangular copper fixtures, specially made for this home, define various zones within the large living room connected to the dining area.
The main vertical communication element of the residence is designed as a sculptural feature. The transparent, shimmering lift resembles a clock that allows you to glimpse its inner mechanism from the inside. A weightless staircase wraps around the lift, with glass steps illuminated by side light streaming in from tall windows.
Following the city's traditions, La villa sul Palazzo is filled with the murmur of greenery and water. The central patio features two symmetrical fountains designed to minimize urban noise.
Plantings are arranged in travertine vases placed around the terrace perimeter, forming a structure visually connecting with the peaks of urban pines. On the main terrace, lemon trees are installed alongside a fireplace, helping organize the space.
