Extension of a Residential House on the Felderhof Estate in Italy
The project of renovating a residential house on the Felderhof estate was carried out by Pawel Mikolajchak in the village of Villandro, Italy.
Initially, the owner decided to keep the house in its original form, and the barn was supposed to house domestic animals as it did in old times. However, there was a need to find a balance between modern life and historical authenticity.
The topography of the site made it possible to build new living spaces partially underground. The resulting structure extends from east to west and is almost entirely hidden in the mountain landscape from the slope side. Only two skylights on the meadow indicate these underground constructions. From the south, the building has a powerful visual impact: the concrete frame opens up the slope surface, and the long glazed facade looks directly into the valley.
Thanks to its wide and stylish façade, new living rooms and bedrooms offer endless enjoyment of the breathtaking view over the Eisack Valley and the high peaks of the Dolomites. The sun generously floods the rooms through skylights. An additional bonus is the excellent view of tall larch trees behind the barn.
The staircase connecting the old building with the new one represents a meeting point of history and modernity. All materials used express this idea and blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
