Family house for relaxation Peconic House, designed by Mapos studio, is located in Hampton Bays, USA.
The owners, who purchased the plot, were completely charmed by the trees growing on it, especially the twenty-meter plane tree in the center of the field. The idea of preserving the creative and ecological heritage of Hampton became the basis for the construction concept. It was decided that the building should be almost invisible on the lushly vegetated territory.
Peconic House consists of a 372 square meter building and a terrace covering 186 square meters. The residence with a unique view over the bay is carefully integrated into the surrounding landscape. Its roof is planted with local meadow grasses to mask human intervention in the environment.
The 60-meter-long terrace gracefully descends from the hill to a 22-meter panoramic pool extending westward. The entire complex, with its palette of materials such as concrete, alloyed steel, tabebuia wood, and cedar, will gradually acquire a natural patina and become an organic part of the landscape. To enter the house, one must follow along a winding stone wall through the forest and green meadow to the path leading to the threshold.
The living room with panoramic glazing offers a view over the wide bay. The interior completes the aesthetic impression with cedar and white oak finishes. An original design solution blurs the boundaries between the interior and nature: the green roof introduces plant diversity, while its overhangs provide access to morning sunlight and shade during the day.
