Olivine Staircase in a Private House in Valencia
The Quarry House residence, designed by Ramon Esteve Estudio, was built in Valencia, Spain. Located on a hillside, the structure was erected under extreme conditions to offer a breathtaking view from its height. The building appears as a series of stacked boxes enclosed by earth cuts.
Upper floors house all living areas. The terrace and pool were designed as an extension of the interior, connecting living spaces with the landscape. The water feature acts as a prism hovering above bedrooms and the gym. The glazed facade frames a panoramic sea view.
The dwelling resembles a beehive, with white concrete monoliths pierced from top to bottom by steps of the central staircase made of semi-transparent honey-colored onyx.
Like floating in mid-air, large solid onyx slabs emit a soft glow, metaphorically connecting the home's inhabitants to the depths of the earth. These volcanic onyx fragments look like sculptures against bedroom interiors, captivating with the aesthetic qualities of natural stone. The Quarry House residence gives an impression of lightness and transparency, blending into the horizon, immersing in silence and tranquility.
