House Along Gabion Wall in India
This country house with a total area of 150 square meters, designed by Spasm Design studio, is located near the town of Lonavala, India. The building's composition is defined by a thick gabion wall stretching 50 meters from north to south.
The break in the gabion wall serves as an entrance point, through which you almost squeeze into a densely planted courtyard, offering a phenomenal view of the surrounding mountains.
The innovative drainage pipe system ensures water runoff from the veranda, which is especially important since the house is located in a region with high rainfall.
A spillway pool set at a distance from the building creates a mirror surface that focuses the gaze on a distinctive mountain peak rising on the opposite bank of the river.
The powerful gabion wall, somewhat reminiscent of a historic fortification, gives the house an authentic character, making it secure from the road side while allowing generous openness towards the picturesque landscape on the opposite side.
