House on the Bay Shore in USA
Located in the small town of North Haven, USA, where the forest descends to the bay, the Shore House project was developed by LSS (Leroy Street Studio) to reflect both the forested landscape and the openness of the water. From a distance, the cedar wood cladding and green roof conceal the contours of the house, while sparingly placed windows keenly observe the ocean's glints. The earth-buried entrance leads to an interior and exterior spaces that slowly open up to wide views of the bay.
The monumental scale of the cantilevered mass and panoramic glazing combine with the warm texture of fired cedar, brushed oak, black steel, and hand-glazed tile.
By taking on the roles of builders and interior designers, the architects were able to engage in the design process from concept to fabrication and construction, carefully considering all site nuances and incorporating these into the final design.
