Studio Surber Barber Choate + Hertlein Architects designed a luxurious family residence in the city of San Pedro Garza García, Mexico, at the foot of the El Serro de Chipinque mountain range.
Secondary forms, finished with black granite or contrasting white stucco, create more monolithic and enclosed volumes. The texture and color of the granite rhyme with the mountain peaks rising just nearby. The coolness of stone and concrete contrast with warmer tones of wood used both inside and outside.
Inventive composition of planes forms portals, creates negative spaces, frames the most expressive views, and provides a hierarchy of scales.
The house features passive solar design to minimize energy consumption; collected rainwater is used for irrigation and supplying decorative fountains.
