Beach House in New Jersey13 photos
A five-person family vacation residence designed by Specht Architects sits on a small coastal plot in New Jersey, USA, and is not visible from the road. The architects' task was to create something bright and open, making full use of every square meter of this picturesque location.
Many, if not most, beachfront homes built according to current codes are primarily traditional in style and elevated on pilings to the required level for flood protection. Even when pilings are covered with panels, proportions often appear disproportionate. In this case, the architects based their solution on the fact that the building must be erected on pilings, and the idea of using them as key structural elements should be emphasized.
Eastern white cedar and western red cedar wood were used for the exterior cladding to create various tones and textures, as well as highlight the form of the structure.
