Modern House on Martas Vinyard Island

The long agricultural history of the village of Chilmark on the wind-swept southern tip of Martas Vinyard Island forms the basis for the design approach to this house and studio for a multi-generational family created by Gray Organschi Architecture in collaboration with Aaron Schiller.

The design process is rooted in pedagogical practice and successful collaboration. Five years ago, Alan Organschi, who taught on the first year at Yale University, was approached by his student Aaron Schiller, who had been a member of his class, and asked Alan to share his many years of experience in home design. Aaron, whose family had lived in Chilmark for decades, after several years of searching found this rare plot of land for building a new residence.
