Alta Chalet on a Canadian Ski Resort13 photos
Designed by studio AKB at the edge of a private ski club's plot in the resort town of Blue Mountains, Canada, the Alta chalet is designed for a family of five.
Unlike the typical bustling arrangement of noisy windows and protruding eaves, the Alta chalet represents the ideal of modern design and refined detail, drawing inspiration from the form of local traditional barns. Its iconic presence is expressed through the strict black-and-white color scheme of the building and its clear silhouette with a sharp roof.
As a result of the inverted layout, the public areas—combined living room, kitchen and dining room—are located on the upper floor to offer the most favorable panoramic views of the ski slopes.
The first floor includes private spaces—bedrooms and bathrooms—as well as a sauna with direct access to a terrace with an outdoor jacuzzi.
A minimalist yet perfect palette of materials defines the elegant character of the interior, each aspect of which is meticulously detailed. Walls and sloped ceilings create a matte white sculptural composition that enhances winter light and accentuates the purity of snow outside the windows. Floors made of wide oak planks and light wood joinery exude warmth and tactile comfort.
