Architectural firm Olson Kundig from Seattle designed this country house in 2003, yet it remains relevant today. The residence belongs to Jim Olson, one of the founders of the company.

In the 1980s, the retreat from urban hustle consisted of three small pavilions connected by a single wooden platform. In 2003, they were all joined under one roof, forming a structure fitted into the slope. In 2014, the architect added a farmhouse bedroom and two guest rooms, creating a full retreat home for nature with an area of 223 square meters.

A large glass wall in the living room, like a giant framed picture, blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. Deliberately modest color palette and textures are intended to blend the house into nature, emphasizing the vibrant and colorful surroundings. Simple and widely available materials were used in the project, including reclaimed wood, plywood, and steel structures. Three fir trees were integrated into the design — holes were provided in the terrace and even in the roof for them.
