House with San Francisco Bay View
Project studio Terry & Terry Architecture completed the renovation of an old house built in 1991 on top of a picturesque mountain ridge in the Oakland-Hills area of Oakland, California, USA. Panoramic views of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge served as the starting point for the Skyline project, which has a total area of 250 square meters. The renovated house belongs to a young family, with the main requirements being an open layout and connection to the garden.
The residence is built at 550 meters above sea level, which results in breathtaking views but also leads to uncomfortable temperature fluctuations. These variations influenced the design of the house in the form of a "pipe" with a wavy roof that lets in a refreshing daytime breeze into the living area, thereby cooling the rooms. The roof design deliberately overhangs the view terrace, protecting it from direct sunlight.
Two bedrooms and two bathrooms are designed in the left wing of the upper level.
The new staircase connects the spaces on the upper level with the rooms on the lower floor, where a media room, bedroom, and office are located.
