Country residence Lookout, designed by Omar Gandhi Architect, gracefully extends along a narrow plot of land located between a dirt road and a high scenic sea coast in Inverness, Canada. This small coastal town is popular with tourists and vacationers thanks to its sandy beaches, dunes, and world-class golf courses.
The layout of the single-story house follows a long corridor with a series of adjacent public and private spaces opening onto the ocean view.
Half of the building is dedicated to a large open-plan living area that includes a lounge, kitchen, and dining room. The centerpiece of this open space is a five-meter island that serves both as a food preparation area and a dining table.
At the opposite end of the house are three compartments defining private living zones—bedrooms and bathrooms.
The facade facing the ocean features panoramic glazing, while the opposite retaining wall has several upper windows allowing gentle sunlight from the northeast to enter. The simple roof hangs over the building like a low-brimmed hat, shielding the interior from intense summer sun while emphasizing the horizontal lines of the coastal landscape. The roof rises above the kitchen like a hood, accentuating the heart of the communal zone of the house.
