House in Northern California
House in Northern California
Located on coastal hills of Northern California, USA, and designed for two retired geophysicists, this 255-square-meter residence was planned by Alan Nicholson Design Studio.
Mounting of suspended walls is made possible through a specially developed complex system of ties and steel struts.
Landscaping emphasizes the unity between architecture and surrounding landscape. The house appears as if emerging from the water of a mirror pond located between the hill and the earth retaining wall. Local grasses and flowers blend seamlessly with a small olive garden and vegetable plot.
