Puro — iconic boutique hotel with 22 rooms located in the historic center of Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Being integrated into the surrounding dense urban fabric, the building has an irregular layout. The hotel's renovation project, developed by OHLAB studio, uses this complexity as a tool to create unique and unexpected spaces, where each room is distinct from the others.
In close collaboration with architects, artist Pedro Oliver created a series of unique murals specifically for this project, adorning each room.
A simple palette of natural materials — oak wood, cement basins, fragments of old local sandstone walls, ropes made from natural cork, stainless steel switches, aged leather, linen cloth, and cotton produced on traditional looms, rattan rugs, and locally made woven baskets — is a distinctive feature that creates the hotel's unique character. Additionally, monumental wooden doors shaped like mandalas, which have been part of the hotel's charm since its inception, were restored.
Most of the furniture was specially designed by OHLAB studio for this project. Notably, a series of items made from aged bronze, inspired by traditional metal trunks used by porters to carry luggage, replaced conventional wardrobes, tables, and mini-bars.
