Building of the New Music Theatre and Exhibition Hall in Tbilisi

In Tbilisi, Georgia, construction of the Music Theatre and Exhibition Hall is nearing completion, carried out according to a project by Fuksas Studio. The complex will be put into use in 2017 once interior works are finished.

Two arms of this giant pipe made of glass and steel lie along the banks of the Kura River. On the back side, they are connected by a retaining wall rooted into the gentle slope of the site.

In the northern part of the building, elevated above ground level, are the Music Theatre's auditorium with 566 seats, foyer and service rooms including technical spaces for theatrical equipment. The large glazed facade allows people in the foyer and café to enjoy views of the river and the silhouette of the city. It is a kind of periscope aimed at the historical center of Old Tbilisi.

The southern 'arm', housing the exhibition hall, lies on the ground. A ramp leads into the building through its opening.
