In this project, the architects of La Shed Architecture studio drew inspiration from the forms of traditional Canadian cottages. At the same time, simple and fresh details create a distinctly modern appearance that sets the house apart from buildings of other eras.
Black on the exterior, the interior of the cottage is predominantly white, creating a striking contrast between the interior and exterior. The entire structure of the house is dominated by a large open-plan space that includes the living room, kitchen, and dining area.
The owners' private rooms are located in a plywood volume designed in the northern part of the house. This area includes the bedroom, bathroom, and service rooms. A staircase built into this box leads to the loft, which is used as a study, guest area, or space for creative pursuits.
The southern facade opens toward the lake, and its solid glazing encompasses a triangular gable, emphasizing the sharp silhouette of the house.
The concrete slab that serves as the foundation of the structure retains warmth in winter while keeping cool in summer months.
