Converting an Old Castle into a Modern Home16 photos

The project titled Astley Castle by the architectural studio Witherford Watson Mann architects won the RIBA Stirling Prize competition in 2013. The castle complex in Britain represented a unified territory with intricate structures and varied topography. The moat, castle, gates, lake, church, and garden were all integrated into a picturesque landscape. The contemporary renovation included permission to build a new house in the center of the ruined medieval walls. A mandatory condition was maintaining and preserving the historical part of the structure, landscape, and interior. Works began on the site in autumn 2008.
