House in Oregon State for Two Artists
This residence project was commissioned by a couple of artists who own a chain of shops featuring American art, crafts, and jewelry. The home's design is based on classical proportions and scale to create a complex yet comfortable space. The simple long plan of the building and the spacing between windows establish strict proportions and rhythm throughout the structure. On the first floor are the main living areas (kitchen, dining room, and living room), office, and main bedroom. A restrained palette of materials—white marble, dark wood, natural tones of fabrics and draperies—creates a calm and elegant interior. Most furniture pieces, including the main bed, side tables, benches, and fireplace tools, were specially designed for this project. At the back of the house is a pool and terrace. The lower level houses the media center, guest rooms, storage, and a library that runs the full length of the house.
