Family House with Water View
Family House with Water View
This family home, located in the state of Washington and designed by the architectural firm Olson Kundig, offers a stunning view of the waterway and the Olympic Mountains. The entrance door opens into a two-level living space that connects to the dining area. The house is ideal for spending time with friends and relaxing with family. The compact layout maximizes efficiency and minimizes unnecessary circulation. Old agricultural buildings on the site inspired the use of their elements in the residence design. The sloped roof, open interior, attic, and overall building height draw from local architectural principles. Natural light can be regulated using four large exterior sliding wooden shutters that run the full length of the western facade. Additionally, long roof overhangs provide shade and protect the home from direct sunlight and storms. The finishes incorporate simple and accessible materials, including wood, concrete, and steel, which when combined with energy-efficient glass and free access to naturally lit spaces, reduce environmental impact.
