House Surrounded by Natural Landscapes in Montana

Built on a meadow surrounded by trees and ponds on a ranch in Montana, USA, this house looks more like a secluded retreat than a family residence. The landscape is captivating: a river crosses the plot and spreads into streams in spring, lush vegetation organizes a garden, and distant mountains call to ascend to the sky. The water level changes throughout the year and threatens to flood the land, so the architects of Hughes Umbanhowar Architects raised the entire building structure by 76 centimeters. This measure protects the construction from floods and allows the river to flow safely under the foundation and around the building. The residence consists of two sections built in a T-shape. The wood-covered part contains the kitchen, living room, bedrooms, bathrooms, and garage. The more compact perpendicular addition houses the living room, which can boast glass walls on three sides, and the main bedroom is designed on the second floor. Designers placed one four-sided fireplace in the common room and another suspended one in the bedroom. For decoration, they chose a warm surface palette of locally produced wood and limestone.
