New Life of a 19th Century English Chapel
Before the Swiss bureau Evolution Design took over the renovation, this 19th-century chamber chapel in Durham County, United Kingdom had been vacant for more than a decade. The chapel is located within walking distance of the picturesque North Pennines and Hayford Waterfall — an ideal spot for relaxation and walks. Therefore, the old building urgently needed saving. A comprehensive restoration of the roof, façade, and floors was required: over the years, without proper maintenance, everything had decayed and needed replacement. Now it's a wonderful countryside house with elements of the cottage style! With four small bedrooms, a spacious living room, and a kitchen designed for seven people, this cozy home in a 200-year-old building located in one of England's most beautiful regions is unlikely to remain empty. Now, the light will shine through these elegant gabled windows in the evenings, as such architectural masterpieces should not be left to waste.
